Past Projects

Guatemala
EWB OC partnered with the Tz’utujil community in February 2019 to improve their water system’s quality and quantity. Several site visits were conducted to evaluate the feasibility of alternatives and retrieve community buy-in. The Project Team elected to complete its partnership with the community in 2020 and is thankful for all the support and help provided by its volunteers and community.

Honduras
This was a water supply project for the community of Olancho, Honduras. The project included installing a 20,000 gallon water storage tank and conveyance pipeline for nearly 135 homes. The second phase of the project was not completed because of security concerns in-country and extended delays.

Kenya
The Laikipia District Kenya Program included installing a roof-based rainwater collection system and the drilling of shallow spring well. In 2013, our team completed the roof-based Rainwater Catchment of our Water Project. The project left the community with the ability to store over 8000 gallons of usable rainwater. The unfinished phase of our project, which included the drilling and development of a shallow well, was halted due to incomplete permitting required to tap the aquifer.

Our partnered non-governmental organization (NGO) went on to replicate our rain water catchment design at a similar community in need along the Tanzanian border. Our project installed a total of 4 systems, the NGO installed 28 additional rainwater catchment systems.

El Salvador
Milagro is a village located about 10 miles east of San Salvador. This was a grassroots water supply project that served approximately 10,000 people or 2,000 families. This project developed from a basic community need that has existed for decades. Waterborne illness and delivery is a long-standing problem those who cannot afford to buy water must labor several times a day to draw water from river, stream, and spring sources that are typically unsafe for potable water needs. This project addressed a decades-long basic community need. Water-borne illness is a long-standing problem, and delivery of the current water supply imposed a severe financial strain on the community.

Our local NGO partner was ENLACE. EWB-OC helped provide a clean water distribution system as well as hygiene education and training in the local communities on operations and maintenance of the system.
