PRESIDENT

The President conducts the business of the Chapter with the elected officers.  The specific responsibilities include:

  • Be the chief executive officer of the Chapter.
  • Coordinate between the Chapter, the West Chapter Region, and EWB-USA.
  • Ensure that all orders and resolutions of the Chapter are carried into effect.
  • Have cosignatory power over the Chapter’s account with the Treasurer.
  • Prepare agendas for meetings.
  • Initiate ad hoc committees as seen fit, with the approval of the Executive Board.
  • Preside over all the Executive Board and Board Directors meetings of the Chapter.
  • Assist with fundraising.

The term of office of the President shall be one year.

TREASURER

Engineers Without Borders – USA, Orange County Professional Chapter (EWB-USA OC) is looking for a Treasurer to help conduct the business of the Chapter for the fiscal year 2012. The position is a voting member of the Chapter Board of Directors and has a key role in shaping the success of the Chapter.

The Treasurer shall:

  • Receive, record, and account for income and distribute, record, and account for all approved expenditures of the Chapter.
  • Prepare the financial section of the Annual Report of the Chapter for the use by the Past President.
  • Be responsible for the accounts of the Chapter and be subject to audit as prescribed in the Bylaws of the Chapter.
  • Have cosignatory power over the Chapter’s account with the President.
  • Prepare a record of transaction on a monthly basis to be reviewed and accepted at the monthly Board of Directors meetings.
  • Pay all bills as approved by the Executive Board or Board of Directors.
  • Verify returning funds from EWB-USA.
  • Assist with fundraising.
  • Collaborate with project teams to help them understand their current financial situation.
  • Participate in monthly board meetings.

To be nominated for this position, a candidate must have a basic understanding of accounting and a working knowledge of the laws governing the organization’s operation. This rewarding yet challenging position requires an average of 6-8 hours per week.

VICE PRESIDENT of PROJECTS

The Vice President of Projects manages the activities of the Chapter’s projects from an internal perspective within the EWB-USA OC organization. He or she will aid in the selection of the project team leaders and is accountable for the coordination of chapter and project resources to ensure a successful outcome for each project.

The project leader’s specific responsibilities include:

  • Be a resource of information for project teams.
  • Oversee funding and grant participation for each of the projects.
  • Develop and maintain an EWB project guide.
  • Coordinate with project team leads and technical leads to ensure chapter and national requirements are being met.
  • Liaison between project teams and Board.
  • Hold monthly project team lead meetings.
  • Recruit and train his/her replacement.

It is strongly recommended that the candidate have past leadership experience with EWB-USA or another humanitarian volunteer organization (The Peace Corp, Habitat for Humanity, ect).This rewarding yet challenging position requires an average of 6-8 hours per week.

Marketing and PR Coordinator

The Marketing and PR Coordinator manages the activities of the Chapter’s marketing, communication and public outreach projects from an internal perspective within the EWB-USA OC organization.  The specific responsibilities include:

  • Work with Board Members, project team leads, and committee Coordinators to develop and update marketing materials
  • Ensure that the EWB-USA style/identity guidelines are followed
  • Serve as primary liaison and outreach to media.
  • Manage internal marketing resources such as graphic designers and writers
  • Oversee updates to the chapter website
  • Provide assistance and design for membership e-blasts
  • Issue EWB-USA OC quarterly newsletter
  • Participate in monthly Board meetings
  • Participate in Fundraising meetings
  • Recruit and train his/her replacement

Skills:

Marcomm experience – Minimum of 3 years. Experience with computer applications and Internet applications (Google apps, Vertical Response, Facebook and WordPress) recommended. Experience with media, agencies or internal art/copy development preferred.

Time commitment: 2-5 hours per week.

Membership Coordinator

The Membership Coordinator will engage current membership and draw in new members by creating outreach opportunities and maintaining membership information. The specific responsibilities include:

  • Attend monthly Board meetings to ascertain the membership needs from
    • Project leads/teams
    • Committees
  • Organizing general meetings (the timing and frequency of the meetings will be determined as needed by the Board of Directors). Tasks associated with this include:
    • Determining a date and arranging for a meeting location
    • Arranging for a speaker (can be a general presentation, project specific presentation or an outside speaker presenting on topics relevant to EWB membership)
    • Updating the website calendar with details and agenda of the meeting
    • Providing meeting information to the Secretary and Marketing Coordinator for creation of invitations and e blast
    • Taking RSVPs (especially if outside speaker or project lead is presenting to ensure we have enough audience)
    • Can decide to charge per person to cover for food costs etc.
    • Printing a sign-up sheet to bring to the meeting
    • Following up with those who attended.  ** It is very important to send a follow-up email to those who attended ASAP to engage them and get them involved!
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of members including contact information, skills, interest etc. for role specific outreach
  • Responsible for maintaining the “Volunteer” portion of the website, including posting open positions.
  • Reaching out personally to new members who sign up through EWB-USA and our website

Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Vertical Response and WordPress is beneficial.

Time commitment: 2-5 hours per week.

Honduras Team Members Needed!

The Honduras team returned from their assessment trip in June and are ready to enter the design phase. The current project consist of a water distribution system that includes connecting to an existing well, a pump, an elevated tank, chlorine treatment and distribution lines. See the project description for more information.

We are looking for people with experience in water distribution to help with the design, and non-technical support for administrative items such as reports, marketing and fundraising.

El Salvador Team Lead

The project leader is the administrative head of the project from an internal perspective within the EWB-USA OC organization and from an external perspective with respect to the partner community.  He or she is accountable for the coordination of chapter and NGO resources to ensure a successful overall project outcome.  The project leader’s specific responsibilities include:

  • Organize project team meetings and project member roles and responsibilities.
  • Liaison between project team and EWB-USA, EWB-USA OC, NGO and partner community.
  • Coordinate activities of all team members and practice area leads (e.g. technical, health, education, and logistics).
  • Work with project coordinator to meet chapter and national requirements.
  • Available for travel for assessment/ implementation trips
  • Attend board meetings and coordinate with Board and fundraising groups.
  • Provide project related information for marketing and website.

Skills:

Engineering Experience – Minimum of 5 years.

Project Management Experience – Volunteer should be able to delegate tasks to other engineers and manage the project as a whole.

Preferred water/wastewater experience – It is anticipated that the project will be in the water/wastewater field; however, there are multiple possible projects. Please contact us if you are interested and have experience in another engineering field.

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per week
